David’s Obituary
David Loewen was born to Abraham & Maria (Epp) Loewen on March 2, 1935 near Hague (SK). David was 6 years old when his mother passed away. His childhood was spent in Saskatchewan with a family of 15 boys & 4 girls.
On May 21, 1956, David was baptized upon the confession of his faith by his father, Bishop Abraham Loewen, in Neuhort (SK). At the age of 18, David travelled to Burn’s Lake (BC) to work at his brothers sawmill. When he was 21 years old, he bought a share in the company.
On October 13, 1957 David married the love of his life, Tena Knelsen at Danskin (BC) and were blessed to have 62 years together, which they celebrated one week before his passing.
While living in Danskin, 6 children were born to them; Edward, Martha, Frieda, Irma, Ernie & Kathy. In 1971, they moved to LaCrete (AB) where they had 2 more children; Norman & Darlene. Living on the farm in West LaCrete was a wonderful lifestyle in which to raise their family. It was within only a few years that David started logging and sawmilling again; a job he always enjoyed.
In February of 2013, his son, Eddie was diagnosed with cancer and passed away that October. During this time, David’s health started to decline and yet he remained a rock of faith and strength to his wife and family. On October 18, 2018 he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The cancer caused extreme tiredness and his health continued to decline. In spite of his exhaustion, he continued to enjoy spending time with his family and friends.
Thursday, October 17, 2019, his oxygen levels dropped. Early Saturday morning he was taken to the hospital where he very unexpectedly, slipped into a coma. On Sunday, October 20, 2019, with his family at his bedside, he passed away gently and peacefully at 7:00 PM.
David was a wonderful husband and father. His faith, his integrity, and his steadfastness is an example that will forever be an encouragement to all of us.
David was predeceased by his son, Edward, and his grandson, Shaun Neufeld.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Tena; his children, Martha (Abe), Frieda (George), Irma (Henry), Ernie (JoAnne), Kathy (Wes), Norman (Bev), Darlene (Dan); 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
