On Tuesday, September 3, 2019, Cassie Deveaux Cohoon, Montreal, died at the age of 84 years.
Born in Cheticamp, Cape Breton, she moved to Montreal after completing high school. She worked as a stenographer and quickly progressed to responsible secretarial positions that saw her live and work in New York City and Paris before continuing her career in Montreal.
She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Thomas More Institute in Montreal and remained associated with the Institute as a class leader. She was also an active member of the C.J. Jung Society of Montreal.
She followed her passion for writing as a freelance journalist. After researching her Acadian roots, she published her first book “Severine” in 2007, followed by “Jeanne Dugas of Acadia” in 2013 and its French translation in 2019.
Cassie was the daughter of the late Auguste (à Charles) Deveaux and Louise (à Kenneth) Bourgeois and the beloved wife of the late Douglas Haig Cohoon. She is survived by her son Tim Deveaux, her sister Jeannine (Pedro) Simon, her brothers Elbert and Marcel (Sylvia) Deveaux, her aunt Jeannette Aucoin and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at in St. Peter’s Cemetery (old), Cheticamp on Saturday October 12, 2019 at 1:00 PM with Father Pierre Antoine St. Cyr officiating.
