Blue, Betty Joan (nee Johnston)
Passed away peacefully in her 85th year on October 21, 2019 at the Palliative Care Unit of Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare close to her home in LaSalle, ON. Survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Jim Blue, and their children Don (Mary), David (Naghmeh), and Tricia (Rob). Also survived by her brother Doug Johnston (Kerry Lyn). Proud Grandmother of Kevin (Betsy), Marshall (Shaina), James, Daniel, Mattie, and Charlotte (Adam). Great Grandma of Owen, Cameron, Jalen, Baron, and Brooklyn. Remembered by in-laws Bertha Scott (Bill), John Blue (Marilyn), Don Blue (Lynda), and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Edward and Winnifred Johnston and stepfather Albert Gammie, sisters Shirley MacLennan (Ross), Donna Cook (Don), and brother Garry Johnston (Jo-Ann). Betty taught grades 1-8 in a one room schoolhouse in Kintail, ON in 1953-54. She moved to Windsor where she was a grade 3 Teacher on the original staff of Glenwood Elementary School in 1954-55. She raised three children, taught nursery school, and sold real estate for Pedler Real Estate. Betty was a member of Glenwood United Church and a former member of the May Court Club of Windsor. Betty loved her grandchildren and followed each one of them closely, enjoying their many academic and athletic achievements. Her greatest happiness was when everyone was together for family celebrations and she showed us how to be kind to one another. At Betty’s request, cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation Friday, October 25, 2019 6:00-8:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. at Families First 3260 Dougall Ave. South Windsor, 519-969-5841. Final resting place will be Pine River Church Cemetery, Lurgan, ON. Many thanks to friends, neighbours and all the professional care givers who assisted Betty. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Glenwood United Church or the Changing Lives Together Foundation supporting the Palliative Care Program
