Vid Ivačko

La célébration de
Vid Ivačko
28 juillet 1928 –
4 septembre 2019
Vid Ivačko passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Marica. Loving father of Caroline Dragica Štefanac (Mićo), and Mira Borošić (Ivan). Cherished grandfather, “Stari Tata”, of Lilli Franković (Michael), Joseph Škrak (Nadia), Michelle Štefanac, Annmarie and Susana Borošić. Adored great-grandfather of Mila, Nikola, Oliver, and Karolina.
He was born on July 28, 1928, in the village of Donji Oštri Vrh, Ozalj, Croatia, and immigrated to Canada on February 27, 1964, with his wife and two daughters. Vid was proudly Canadian, yet never forgot his roots nor the foundation of where he came from.
Vid lived his life with honour, respect and dignity. He was a World War II General that put his life on the line to protect the freedoms that we enjoy today. He was a humble and loyal man with a very strong work ethic, (“U radu je spas”), and displayed authenticity and integrity in all that he did. Vid’s fortitude was second to none.
Writing songs with his late wife on the beauty and hardships of their revered homeland, Croatia, was a deep sentiment to them. They had a soulful passion for music, and took every opportunity to sing at social gatherings. He loved travelling with his beloved Marica, and instilled this passion within his children and grandchildren.
Vid’s family will forever remember him as a stoic, loving, and generous man without expecting anything in return. His greatest treasure was his family and his long-lasting, inspirational marriage of 69 years with his best friend, soul mate and “desna ruka”.
Your “Pipini’s” will always love and miss you.
Alzheimer’s Poem
Do not ask me to remember
Do not try to make me understand
Let me rest and know you’re with me
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand
I’m confused beyond your concept
I am sad and sick and lost
All I know is that I need you to be
with me at all cost
Do not lose your patience with me
Do not scold or curse my cry
I can’t help the way I’m acting
Can’t be different though I try
Just remember that I need you
That the best of me is gone
Please don’t fail to stand beside me
Love me till my life is done
