Obituary for
Mary Elizabeth Mercer
On September 8, 2019, the world lost a beautiful, determined, tenacious woman. At the age of 64, Mary Elizabeth Mercer lost her battle with ovarian cancer. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and community advocate who touched so many lives. She is deeply loved and there are no words for how very much she will be missed by her family. She was predeceased by her mother, Blanche Wolfe; her father, Merrill Wolfe; and big G-little o (brother Gordon).
Mary was proud of many things in life, but nothing more than being a mother. She leaves behind her children, Brady, Cory and Kendall; and her daughters-in-law Lindsay and Kristi. Her grandchildren, Carson, Avery and Mackenzie will miss her endless story times and picnics in the hallway. Her ketchup-loving brothers, Bob and Don, will continue to tell stories about their adventures growing up with Mary. Sisters-in-law, Carey May, Wendy and Linda, with their style and grace, always kept Mary on her toes. The community of Whitecourt has been Mary’s home for 42 years, where she cherished every friendship and person who became a part of her journey. Our family will forever be grateful for the loving care that she received at the Whitecourt Hospital, where the wonderful staff all truly went above and beyond.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life and telling of her story will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 2:30 p.m. at the Whitecourt Community Centre (Central School, 4807-53 Ave Whitecourt AB T7S 1N2), followed by a reception at the Whitecourt Golf and Country Club (1 Flats Rd, Whitecourt AB T7S 1S3). Her determined nature was powerful, and she had so many endeavors left unfinished. She wanted to keep on making an impact in the community and the world. Donations can be made to The Friends of Whitecourt Society, Box 1101, Whitecourt AB T7S 1P1.
We look forward to hearing all your stories about Mom. In the spirit of Mary, please come dressed as you like. Be comfortable. Mary wouldn’t have it any other way.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary Elizabeth
Mercer..
