Laurie McKellar

Surrounded by his family, Laurie Carlyle McKellar, passed away peacefully, at Seaforth Community Hospital, on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at the age of 78. Laurie was owner/operator of McKellar Barn Painting, based in Cromarty, and later Seaforth, for over 40 years. His final job was completed just 3 years ago, when Laurie finally decided to retire his painter’s brush.
Born in Seaforth, Laurie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Helen (née Nigh) and their children Mark (Heather), Kathy (Blaine), Grant (Tammy) and Susy. Fond memories of a special grandpa remain with grandchildren Alyson, Jessica, Tyler, Austin, Dylan, Megan, Madison, Emma and Gavin. Left to reminisce days gone by are siblings-in-law Alva McKellar and Gwen McKellar, along with a large circle of nieces and nephews. Laurie is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Laurie is predeceased by his parents Lindsay and Gladys (née Miller) McKellar and siblings Ross, Malcolm, Donald, Fergus, Douglas, Robert, Bernice and Jeanette and many family members who have gone on before us.
Arrangements are entrusted to McGlynn Family Funeral Home (519-527-1390) 87 Goderich Street West, Seaforth. Honouring Laurie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A come and go Celebration of Life will be held at the Mitchell Legion, Branch 128, 175 St. Andrew Street, Mitchell, on Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 1-4 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held in Staffa Cemetery at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation or Ronald McDonald House, would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be made by visiting Laurie’s memorial at www.mcglynnfamilyfuneralhome.com
