Marchesan Carlo

Marchesan’s Obituary
Carlo died peacefully on August 23, 2019 at St. Peter’s Hospital in his 82nd year. Carlo began his life in Castello di Godego (Veneto region in north-eastern Italy) as the third of six brothers and one sister on September 18, 1937.
After completing his elementary school years he joined the Salesian religious congregation to pursue his vocation towards the priesthood. Although health reasons prevented Carlo from reaching his goal he remained a lay member of the Salesians as a teacher and music instructor until 1971 when he joined his family in Hamilton where they had immigrated 14 years earlier.
Carlo began his new life in Canada as a warehouse manager for a local roofing company followed by 25 years in the coke ovens department of Stelco until his retirement in 1999.
Inspired by the Salesians founder, Don Bosco, Carlo lived a simple and unassuming life, focused on acts of charity, in particular, to the less fortunate and marginalized who lived in his local neighbourhood. He was known among friends and family for his unconventional sense of humor and enjoyed classical and sacred music in his spare time. Carlo was also an active and generous parish member of All Souls Church and continued his membership even after he moved to a Stoney Creek retirement home in 2017.
Carlo was predeceased by his parents, Bruno and Natalia (nee Morosin), and his brothers Mario (2018) and Giovanni (1951). He will be remembered by his sister Lidia (Giuseppe Stramare), his brothers Pietro (Bianco Civiero), Ilario (Donna Boldin), Erminio (Kathy Jazvac), and Dorothy Willis, fourteen nephews/nieces, nineteen great nephews/nieces and cousins and their families in Argentina, Australia, Canada, and Italy.
Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to the wonderful staff at St. Peters Hospital who cared for Carlo during his stay.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Good Shepherd or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL (43 Barton St E, Hamilton) on Sunday August 25th from 6-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers and Rosary will be at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered at All Souls Church on Monday August 26th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation and private entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will take place at a later date.
