Lillian “Janice”‘s Obituary
Tudball, Lillian “Janice”- Shelburne, finally got her call home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2019. Born in Port LaTour on June 8, 1940, she was a daughter of the late James Douglas and Minnie Smith. She was the last remaining survivor of their four children. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert Tudball; son, Robert (Lisa), Halifax; daughters, Karen ( Robert deceased) Benham and Melanie (Edwin) Benham; grandchildren, Christopher (Allison) Benham, Dartmouth; Stephen (Melissa) Benham, Yarmouth; Stephanie Benham, Shelburne and Erin Tudball, Halifax; great-grandaughters, Tehya Poole (2), Emily Savard (8), who adored her and was blessed to have known her, even though for only a short time. She was predeceased by brothers, Maynard (Charlotte) Smith and Harry (Jennette) Smith, and sister Jennie (Malcolm) Crowell. Janice was always active as a mom, worker, canvasser and volunteer to so many organizations, and was presented with a Provincial Representative Volunteer of the Year Award in 2007. At Christmas of 2018 she was presented with a “Life Membership” to Roseway Hospital Auxillary. She was very proud of these recognitions. She worked as a waitress and telephone operator in her earlier years, before staying home to raise their three children, then going on to work at local fish plants, ending with the Dory Shop. She always loved the tourists and the people she worked with. Finally, she joined her husband in retirement, but still remained busy volunteering for Roseway Hospital AUxillary, Nu-2-U and other places without a blank day on her calendar. She was a 50 year member of “Lodge”. When she became too ill, her most difficult decision was to begin giving up activities slowly and one by one. Mostly she missed her volunteer work and just being on the go in general. Anyone who knew her, knows her passion was always being dressed “right” for the “right occasion” and season, even if it meant changing three times a day. She had a talent for mixing and matching right down to the earrings for special holidays. There is not one person who knew Janice that cannot recall a handful of memories to laugh about, or as it was known..”to pull a Smithy” would be to have something hilariously funny and /or awkward happen to them. She had such a pure, kind, honest and loving soul. She prayed often for the Lord to take her in the past few months. Thank you, Lord, for gifting her to us for as long as you did. We know she will be welcomed with many open arms and will continue to be with us here in our hearts and memories. The family would like to thank Dr. Keeler for all the years he served as her doctor and VON for doing home visits as well as the staff at Roseway Hospital for doing their best to ensure her comfort. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19 from 7-9 pm in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home Shelburne where a “Celebration of Life Service” will take place on Tuesday, August 20 at 2 pm with Rev. Edwin Allen officiating. Janice has chosen to be cremated and later be reunited with her husband in a companion urn and be buried together after his passing. Therefore there will be no graveside committal. Memorial donations may be made to the Roseway Hospital Foundation Fund or charity of choice.
