James Michael Finn left this world in his 76th year on Saturday, August 17, 2019.
Michael was born in Glasgow, Scotland then raised in Deans Grange, Ireland. He studied nursing at Bellsdyke Hospital in Larbert, Scotland where he graduated as a Registered General Nurse and a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Immigrating with his young family in 1969, he worked at Scarborough Centenary Hospital then settled in Port Hope where he was the dedicated Director of Care at Community Nursing Home on Hope Street for 24 years. Since his retirement in 1995 he enjoyed a second career with Cobourg Walmart. Always with a love for the game of golf, his other hobby since 1980 was proudly marching in front of the Port Hope and District Pipe Band as their Drum Major.
Michael is survived by Marilyn, his loving wife of 55 years; daughter Helena, her husband Andrew Vickers and their children Genevieve and Meaghan; daughter Christina, her husband Paul Gillespie and their children Benjamin, Kennedy and Gracey; and daughter Kerry, her husband Paul Strybosch and their daughter Anna. Family was his pride and joy and we all know how blessed we were to have him in our lives.
We invite you to help us celebrate his life this coming Sunday, August 25th. Drop in 6:00-8:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 30 at 29A Thomas Street Port Hope. There will be light refreshments and a cash bar in support of the Legion.
Our family wish to thank Dr. L. Durante for his years of care and the Ambulance and Fire Service personnel who attended to Michael in Harwood. The nurses and physician on duty in Emergency at Northumberland Hills Hospital that early morning could not have been more caring in their efforts or kinder to our family at the end of his life. Our family ask you to consider donating to the charity of your choice in Michael’s honour. Be kind to one another – he always was.

My sympathies to Marilyn and family. I worked with Mike for 14 yrs at Walmart. He was so very proud of his family. Always letting me know how all his grandchildren were doing. I miss speaking to Mike as he was a smart and compassionate man. He was wonderful after I lost my dad. Remember all the good times and cherish your memories, as they will last forever.
