Jacqueline Orr Moore

In Loving Memory Of
Jacqueline Orr Moore
Jacqueline Orr Moore of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the age of 83 years. Beloved wife of the late John Stanley Moore, and loving mother of Kristin Moore (Robb Wheatley) of Calgary, and Johnny Moore of Vancouver.
Jacy was born in Grande Prairie, AB, the eldest child of Gordon and Ethel Orr. Her intelligence was apparent at a young age, and her love of learning propelled her into a career in education. She married John on December 29, 1956, and then moved to Calgary to start their new life. She taught for the Calgary Board of Education for many years. She went back to the University of Calgary to complete her degree once her children were in school. She worked for several years with the Alberta Social Care Facilities Review Committee. Mom was a true renaissance woman, and was passionate about so many different things. She was incredibly well read, and was part of a book club that dissected over two hundred books in twenty-two years. She was a season ticket holder for the Calgary Symphony, Calgary Opera, Alberta Ballet, and multiple chamber groups and theatre organizations. She volunteered for the Kiwanis music festival for many years. She supported the arts and instilled the love of the arts in her children. Unknown to many, she was also a competitive Dominion Marksman with a First Class Expert Standing. She was an animal lover, and nurtured many Moore family Siamese cats and Labradors. Every dog at the dog park knew she carried extra treats in her pockets. A dog did not pass by Mom without a snuggle. She was also a lifelong bird watcher and always had a set of binoculars close at hand. She and John loved the outdoors and travel. They went to Lake O’Hara lodge every summer for over forty-five years to meet up with lifelong friends and hike. They travelled to various cities to take in music festivals and the opera. Paris was a loved city, and Tofino held a special place. The most important thing for Mom was friendships. She had tight circles of friends from all aspects of her life. From the Dog Park Dames, Bridge groups and the Lake O’Hara Gang, to regular lunches with those she worked with over the years. Childhood friends from Grande Prairie and school to her neighbours on Frontenac Ave; she nurtured and cherished those relationships. Jacy was known for her intellect, her quick wit, and her never ending quest for knowledge. She listened, and gave great advice. Her eyes sparkled when she laughed.
Jacqueline is survived by her younger brother, James Orr (Marion) of Vancouver; grandchildren, Laura and Quinn Moore and their mother Shawnah Fossen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her husband John Moore, and her parents Gordon and Ethel Orr.
As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no funeral. There will be a Celebration of Jacqueline’s life on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Fort Calgary, 750 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 5E1, in the Officers Mess.
