Irene Ellen Wert (nee Edworthy) was born February 23, 1925 in Star City, SK. She died on August 22, 2019 at Salem Manor, Leduc, AB, with her sons, George and Rick, and daughters-in-law, Kathy and Val, at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Lorne Earl Wert, her seven siblings, son-in-law Dave McGimpsey, as well as most of her contemporaries.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lana, George (Kathy), Rick (Val) and Glenda “Wendy”, her grandchildren, Shauna (Ryan), Jennifer (Kelly), Corey (Amy), Rick (Natalie), Jody (James), Mike (Amanda), Meg (Sam), Lauren, Samantha (Cody), and Danny. Her great-grandchildren filled her with joy: Alex, Sydney, Brandon, Adam, Katie, Christen, Abigail, Claire, David, Andrew, Zach, Laura, Madeline, and Annalou.
Mum was intelligent, creative and witty. She brought fun and laughter into every room. She was a thinker, a reader, a writer and a keen observer of human nature. The love and romance between Lorne and Irene was legendary. Their marriage took them across the Prairies and they made enduring friendships wherever they lived. Mum was an extraordinary mother, intuitive and unconventional. Irene was especially proud of becoming a cowboy poet in her sixties and being awarded the Citizen of Distinction for Leduc in her seventies. Her family and friends loved her dearly and will miss her deeply. Our gratitude to Salem Manor for their attention and care these past four years. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 30, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at St. David’s United Church, 4614 48 Street, Leduc, AB.
