Fred Woodcock
January 24, 1945- August 7, 2019
Fred Woodcock passed away peacefully on August 7 after valiantly living with cancer for several years.
Fred was born to John & Verna Woodcock in Wakapa, Manitoba on January 24, 1945. He left home in his teens and found his way to Alberta where he took on a variety of jobs, working on farms, in ironwork, painting, meat cutting, the oil & gas industry, and enjoyed driving school bus in his retirement years. On August 5, 1972 Fred wed Marj Yellowlees and they started a family, living briefly in Carstairs, Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca, before making their home in Westlock.
Fred was an active member of the Westlock community and a friend to all. He took on many roles at the Westlock Alliance Church and was always willing to lend a hand with family and friends. To know Fred, was to become his friend and the welcome mat was always out at his and Marj’s home. Fred loved to work with his hands and always kept busy, particularly with home renovations. Above all, Fred loved spending time with his family; he was a proud and devoted Dad and Papa.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Marj; children Larry (Ioana) Croteau, Rebecca (Bradley) Carr, and Travis (Francine) Woodcock; grandchildren: Steven, Jessica (Bryan) & Alexander; Alyssandra & Jayden; and Shayla, Marissa, Kruz & Nevaeha; great grandchildren: Melody, Brody & Reid; siblings: Roy (Shirley), Maurine (Peter), Wenda, and Bob (Marj), sister-in-law Sharron, as well as numerous family and friends. Fred was predeceased by his parents, brothers Ronald & Barrie and sister-in-law Donna.
Heaven’s gates have opened and Fred now rejoices with our Heavenly Father! Please join us for a celebration of Fred’s life on Tuesday, August 20, 2:00 pm at Westlock Memorial Hall. We wish to thank Dr. Coulson and the wonderful staff at the Westlock Healthcare Centre.
