With heavy hearts the children of Betty, Barbara (Allen) Rolfe of Claresholm, Stan (Pamela) McDougall of High River, and Ann (Harold) Johansen of Okotoks announce her passing Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Willow Creek Continuing Care in Claresholm, Alberta. Born and raised on the family farm at Unity, Saskatchewan she forever remained a farm prairie girl at heart. Betty lived a full life. She was a psychiatric nurse, an ardent curler, a passionate golfer, a 70- year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the soprano soloist in her United Church Choir, an active community volunteer and a devoted mother. She married Vernon McDougall in 1946 and resided in Unity, raising her children and helping at the family’s Hardware Store. Betty and Vern moved to Victoria in 1969. Widowed in 2008, Betty moved to Cottonwood Village in Claresholm to be closer to family. She remained in Claresholm until her passing.
She was predeceased by her husband Vern, parents, Ernest Young and Eva (Banks) Young, and her four siblings, Eleanor, Pat, Arch and June, and their spouses. Betty is survived by her three children and their spouses and her two precious grandsons, Matthew (Mandy) Rolfe of Camrose and Warren (Bethany) Rolfe of Warman, Saskatchewan. She will be greatly missed by her five delightful great grandchildren, Cole, Alayna, Brayden, Kaiden and Kael. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Betty was a gentle, patient and wise person whose passing leaves a huge hole in the family. We will miss but forever remember her beautiful smile.
The family extends deep and sincere thanks to the staffs of Cottonwood Village and Willow Creek Continuing Care for the excellent care Betty received from everyone. No service will be held, a private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the family plot in Unity, Saskatchewan.
