It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Despina Stefanopoulos on August 21st,2019, at the ago of 85. Beloved wife for 58 years of Stavros Stefanopoulos,cherished mother of George and Dora ,devoted grandmother of Steve, Nicolas, Kimberly-Despina, George. She will also be deeply missed by her siblings and many relatives and friends.
Born in Trachia Argolidos on April 15th, 1934, Despina lost her mother at the age of 6 years old , and learned at a very young age that she needed to be strong, independent and united with her siblings. Growing up with very little and a passion for fashion she learned how to sew and excelled at it. She created beautiful clothing for herself and others and made a career out of it.
In her village she met and fell in love with a handsome young man Stavros. It was a true love story. Stavros enlisted in the army and she came to Canada in search of a better life. They continued writing love letters and vowed that when Stavros finished the army she would return to Greece and they would marry. They returned to Canada together and were happily married for 58 years.
Despina always put her family first, her children George and Dora were the light of her life. Her greatest pride and joy came with the birth of her grandchildren Stavros,Nicolas, Kimberly-Despina and George. Her grandchildren will be forever grateful to have been raised by such a wonderful grandmother.
Whoever had the privilege to know her knew she had the kindest most generous soul. Her strength was remarkable,she fought to stay with her family for as long as she could.
We love you mama , yiayia, and loving wife. You were our rock and the heart and soul of our family. Be with the Angels Rest In Peace. Forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, a donations at Sacre-Coeur hospital would be greatly appreciated.
