Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Grove passed away at The Village – Revera, Hanover, peacefully after a lengthy deteriorating health, to be with her Lord and Saviour on August 7, 2019, at the age of 90.
Betty was born in Ellice Township on June 20, 1929, the daughter of the late Allan and Katie Schultz. She was a member of the Hanover Mennonite Church. Betty attended public school in Topping, Wellesley Bible School, and Eastern Mennonite College, where she met her future husband. Betty loved to cook and entertain many guests. She cooked for Camp Belwood, Egerton Private Hospital in London, and several nursing homes. She loved to teach little ones in Sunday School, and Summer Bible School. She worked for numerous Mennonite Disaster projects in Canada and the U.S.A., as well as projects for Habitat for Humanity. Travelling was a passion for Betty and her family, touring 5 continents, and 25 countries. A highlight of her time serving involved a short term stay in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Survived by her husband Joseph Grove, whom she married September 11, 1957 at Poole Mennonite Church, her daughter Deborah Grove-Zigler of Kitchener, and sons Stephen (JoAnn) of Duchess, Alberta, and Philip (Denise) and Mark (Louise) both of Durham. Dearly missed by grandchildren Matthew (Kara), Michael (Erin), Kyle, Shannon (Colton), Jasen, Marnie (Aaron), Clara (Rod), Jamie (Mat), 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandsons. Fondly remembered by sisters Arvilla Leis of Stratford and Shirley (Rev. Herbert) Schultz of New Hamburg, and brother John Schultz of New Hamburg. Predeceased by her parents, brother in-law Vernon Leis, and nephew Charles Schultz.
Visitation at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Monday, August 12, 2019, from 2-4 & 6-9 pm, where a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at 11am. Pastor Juanita Laverty officiating. Inurnment in Hanover Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations to the Mennonite Central Committee or the Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
