Obituary of Shirley Elizabeth Smith
Smith (Teal), Shirley Elizabeth -Age 92, of Broad Cove, passed away July 25 in Shoreham Village Nursing Home, Chester. Born in Broad Cove on September 25, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Minnie (Wentzell) Teal. Shirley was an excellent home maker. A great deal of her younger married life was as a family caregiver for ailing family members. She was well known as an excellent baker, making and decorating birthday and wedding cakes. She was also a very skilled quilter.
Shirley is survived by sons, Daniel “Danny” (Kathy), Cambridge, ONT; Barry (Cindy), Broad Cove; Wayne (Jane), Broad Cove; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Roy Smith; daughters, Nancy Elizabeth Tanner and Denna Lynn in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., August 17 in St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Broad Cove; Reverend Peter W. Harris officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Back Road, Broad Cove. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to United Communities Fire Department, Cherry Hill, St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Broad Cove or a charity of choice.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Shoreham Village Nursing Home staff for the excellent care and compassion shown to our mother during her stay.
