Cecil was predeceased by his parents William J. and Helena (McInroy) Moffatt; sister Willa Van Male; brother Robert Moffatt; son Gerald Harvey Moffatt; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Violet and Gordon Fisher, Stanley and Connie Latimer, Ivan and Pauline Latimer, Dorothy and Lou Pogany, Melvin and Emily Latimer, and niece Brenda Pogany. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eileen; daughter Judy and son-in-law Denis Stephenson; and daughter-in-law Gloria Moffatt; grandchildren Jessica Stephenson, Jerrett Stephenson and wife Jess, Darrell Stephenson and wife Dominika, Greg Moffatt and wife Julie, and Garrett Moffatt and wife Candy; great-grandchildren Bruno Stephenson, Nell Stephenson, Cassidy Moffatt, and Georgia Moffatt. Cecil is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Cecil was born in the Moosomin District, attended New Hastings School and Moosomin Collegiate. Being an Army Reservist, he became active when the Unit mobilized. After training in many locations across Canada, Cecil proceeded via Pier 1 overseas August, 1942. He became a decorated veteran when he received the French Cross of War with Silver Star (Croix De Guerre avec Etoile D’argent for Gallantry and Distinguished services) and acknowledgement from Le General De Gaulle. Cecil also received the Medal of Holland which was established in later years. He enjoyed attending his many army reunions in Moosomin to reminisce.
Cecil was very active in the Community, Church, Cubs and Scouts, and all of the children’s activities. He was a life member of NWMP#11 Masonic Lodge, 47 years in Lionism: receiving designation in their Hall Of Fame, and the Past Patron and HLM of Regina Chapter No.7, Order of the Eastern Star. Cecil and Eileen enjoyed travelling with many trips to England, Scotland, and Europe (one trip planned at retirement to revisit the route taken during the war). They also enjoyed Hawaii, Florida, Vancouver Island, the East Coast, and their favorites were the many family vacations. The last memorable trip was to grandson Greg’s wedding in Stouffville, which was also a reunion with all family able to attend. Many good games of bowling, golfing, dancing, bridge, and social evenings with friends allowed Cecil to have an enriching and enjoyable life.
A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to The Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, #200 – 4545 Parliament Avenue, Regina, SK S4W 0G3.
