Grover Cleveland MacTavish 19352019

Grover Cleveland MacTavish
1935-2019
Grover C. MacTavish of Harvey, York Co., NB passed away on June 27,
2019 at his home. Grover was born on August 4, 1935 at Cassilis, NB,
a son of the late Albert and Mary (Whitney) MacTavish.
Grover placed a lot of value on education. A life-long learner, Grover
started his educational career in a one-room school house in Cassilis,
Miramichi, NB and was part of the first graduating class from North
and South Esk Regional High School in 1954. Grover was awarded the
Beaverbrook Scholarship, a prestigious academic award that allowed him
to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Engineering at the University of
New Brunswick, and go on to become a highly regarded Civil Engineer
internationally. This career led to a life of travel, moving 35 times
in 60 years, he and his wife Pansy and their four children have lived
in 6 countries around the world and visited many more. Well travelled
and well read, Grover was one of the most culturally aware people you
could ever meet … accepting of all and always curious of how and
why others lived the way they did. A large advocate of education and
the opportunities it can bring, he was very supportive and proud of
his children and grandchildren’s academic achievements.
Grover liked to keep busy, be it wood working, landscaping or
maintenance to his beloved cottage on Lake George; or making his
weekly breakfast visits to the Cabin Restaurant and Dumfries Maples
Pancake House it was not often he sat still. Strong-willed and always
on the go, he will be missed and never forgotten by those who knew
him.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pansy M. (Sheppard) MacTavish;
his children, Donald MacTavish (Sonja), Beverly Frittenburg, Neil
MacTavish (Caitlin) and Paula Fletcher (Donald); his grandchildren,
Mia, Leonard, Amelia and Lily; a sister-in-law, Vera MacTavish; his
brother David’s daughter, Davida Scott, husband Don and children
Jane and Nathan; his brother Albert’s (and Vera’s) son
Craig and family; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law in the Sheppard
family, Maxine (Leroy), Claude (Carolyn), Blanche (Randy) and Randy
(Nancy); several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Harold,
David (late Josie), Margaret and Albert Jr.
A private family service will be held at Swan Funeral Chapel, Harvey
Station, NB.
