Bertha Lilian Chugg November 19 1926 June 3 2019

In Loving Memory Of
Bertha Lilian Chugg
Bertha Lilian Chugg, longtime resident of Grande Prairie, AB, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, June 3, 2019, at the age of 92 years.
Bertha was born November 19, 1926, in a nursing home in Red Deer, AB, to Oscar and Lilian Presho. At the age of 1½, Bertha and her family moved to Athabasca, AB, where she was raised on a farm 2 miles from town. There she grew up the youngest of 4 children, living life to the fullest on the farm.
She received her high school education in the small, one-room schoolhouse and continued on to Edmonton where she graduated from the nurses training program at the Royal Alexandria Hospital in 1948. She went on to nurse in Regina as well as Manning before coming to Grande Prairie.
Bertha met Elmer Chugg and they were married November 16, 1955 in Athabasca, AB. They began their married life in Grande Prairie and settled on the farm east of Grande Prairie where they raised 5 children. Bertha worked tirelessly both on the farm and in her nursing career at the hospital. During retirement, they spent numerous winters as snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona where they enjoyed senior life surrounded by friends and family.
Bertha was an exceptional nurse. She had high expectations in her career for herself and those around her and dedicated her life to giving the best care possible to those she surrounded herself with. She helped so many people and loved every minute of it. She also enjoyed the farm, experiencing everything from driving the crazy swather to painting out-buildings, sewing and cooking, planting and caring for both a vegetable and flower garden, and harvesting the grain. There was nothing she couldn’t do. She also loved to golf and play shuffleboard where she won numerous tournaments and trophies. Her greatest passion for her children was two-fold: the first being we would all get to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ, and the second that we would have music in our lives. For that we are very grateful.
Bertha will be dearly missed by her children: Michael (Marybeth) Chugg, Bradford (Cynthia) Chugg, Katharine (Karl) Nimmert, Leslie (Bob) Donaldson, and Wendy (Richard) Peters, as well as her 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Bertha was predeceased by her husband Elmer Chugg, father Robert Oscar Presho, mother Lilian Presho, sister and brother in-law Ethel and Bert McDonald, brother and sister in-law George and Joan Presho, sister Marion Presho, and granddaughter Maxine Peters.
The family would like to thank the management and staff of Prairie Lake Seniors Community for the excellent care and kindness shown to Bertha, as well as Dr. Richard Martin for his long-serving care of Bertha, and Verna Horney for her dedication, love and support extended to her.
Bertha’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 11:00am, at Bezanson Community Church (9801 103 St.) with a lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (710, 10123 99 St., Edmonton, AB, T5J 3H1) or to Diabetes Canada (104, 12220 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, AB, T5N 3Y4).
