With deep love and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Thelma June Wagner on May 11, 2019.
Thelma has gone on to join her beloved husband Gordon, her parents Ernest and Mary, and Gordon’s parents, Conrad and Emily. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons Martin (Wendy) and Bryan (Sheryl); grandchildren Rachel, Kate, Trevor (Kristina), Natasha; brother Raymond Daniels, and many nieces and nephews.
Thelma was born in Winnipeg and as a youth enjoyed participating in all school sports and music activities. She loved speed skating.
Thelma married Gordon Wagner on June 10, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church. As a member she was involved in a number of church activities, serving on the church council, helping with the food pantry and singing in the choir. Thelma and Gordon were instrumental in helping build Luther Camp at Lake Brereton. Through these activities, she and Gordon developed and maintained many lifelong friendships. Before she had children, Thelma worked in the business world in a number of capacities. Once her children were in school, Thelma became one of the first teacher aides and organized the first teacher’s aides union in Seven Oaks School Division. Later, Thelma became a well-respected library technician and used her skills to set up small lending libraries within the organizations she volunteered for.
A lifelong supporter of the NDP party, Thelma worked on many political campaigns. Thelma lived a full active life. She was a world traveller, a life-long learner and a dedicated volunteer. MTS Pioneers, North Centennial Seniors and Parkside Seniors all greatly benefited from her enthusiasm, knowledge and education.
Thelma loved the family cottage at Lake Brereton and took great delight in making all visitors feel welcome and at home.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful grandmother who was especially proud of each of her grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bharj, the palliative care team and all the doctors and nurses who cared for her over the last months.
At Thelma’s request, a private family service has already taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
