Robert Asselin, age 74, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 18, 2019, at his home with his loving and supportive wife by his side.
Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Hélène (née Granger), three children, Daniel (Louise Tétrault), Josée (Ron Brook) and Jean-Luc (Madeleine Legal) and seven grandchildren: Matthieu, Erik, Justin, Zoée, David, Félix and Gabriel. Robert loved his family dearly! His family was his pride and joy.
Robert is also survived by his siblings, Jeannine (Ken Eisner), René (Claire Bilodeau), Yvonne (Eric Wees), Louise (Norm Leveque), Pierrette (Bill McTavish), Charles (Carol Beggs), his brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert (Suzanne Bédard), Jocelyne (Gerry Stary), Liliane (Peter Dyck), Roger (Glenda Lebeau), Laurence (David Nordin), Michelle (Wayne Bilan), André (Louise Dandeneau), and his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Marcel and Simone (née Beaugrand dit Champagne) Asselin, by his step mother, Florence (née Beaugrand dit Champagne) Asselin, by his father and mother in law, Louis and Léonie (née Gauthier) Granger, by his brothers-in-law, John Robertson and Gilbert Beaudette, and by his godson, Robert Vandal.
Bob had a great sense of humor! He loved telling jokes and just making people laugh. That’s why he had a lot of great friends. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. He passed down this love and his knowledge to his children and grandchildren. Music always brought a smile to Bob’s face and dancing brought him to his feet. He did have some smooth moves on the dance floor! Lastly, Bob was a hard worker. He worked 25 years for the government of Manitoba. He was a great mechanic. Bob showed great courage, strength and dignity while fighting heart disease for many years.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba.
Donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or the Dauphin Hospital Foundation.
Robert Asselin est décédé le 18 mai 2019 à l’âge de 74 ans, à son domicile avec sa chère épouse à ses côtés.
Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Hélène (née Granger), ses enfants et leurs conjoints, Daniel (Louise Tétrault), Josée (Ron Brook) et Jean-Luc (Madeleine Legal), ainsi que ses sept petits-enfants, Matthieu, Erik, Justin, Zoée, David, Félix et Gabriel. Robert aimait beaucoup sa famille. Ses yeux pétillaient de joie et de fierté lorsqu’il parlait de ses enfants et de ses petits-enfants.
Il laisse aussi ses frères et sœurs Jeannine (Ken Eisner), René (Claire Bilodeau), Yvonne (Eric Wees), Louise (Norm Leveque), Pierrette (Bill McTavish), Charles (Carol Beggs); ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs, Albert (Suzanne Bédard), Jocelyne (Gerry Stary), Liliane (Peter Dyck), Roger (Glenda Lebeau), Laurence (David Nordin), Michelle (Wayne Bilan), André (Louise Dandeneau), ainsi que ses nombreux neveux et nièces.
L’ont précédé dans la vie éternelle, ses parents Marcel et Simone (née Beaugrand dit Champagne) Asselin, sa belle-mère Florence (née Beaugrand dit Champagne) Asselin, ses beaux-parents Louis et Léonie (née Gauthier) Granger, ses beaux-frères John Robertson et Gilbert Beaudette, ainsi que son filleul Robert Vandal.
Bob avait un excellent sens d’humour! Il racontait les meilleures farces et faisait rire les autres. Bob aimait beaucoup la pêche et la chasse. Il a transmis cet amour et toutes ses connaissances à ses enfants et à ses petits-enfants. Bob aimait aussi la musique et il ne se gênait pas pour se lever et danser, le cœur léger. C’était une autre façon qu’il utilisait pour semer la joie autour de lui. Finalement, Bob était un mécanicien de première classe et avait d’excellentes habitudes de travail. Il n’est donc pas surprenant qu’il ait travaillé pour le gouvernement du Manitoba pour 25 ans. Affligé par la maladie du cœur pendant plusieurs années, Bob a toujours démontré du courage, de la force et de la ténacité.
La célébration de la vie de Robert aura lieu samedi le 25 mai 2019 à Birchwood Funeral Chapel à Steinbach (MB).
La famille encourage ceux et celles qui le désirent à faire un don à la mémoire de Robert Asselin à la Fondation des maladies du cœur du Canada, aux Fonds de l’Hôpital Saint-Boniface ou au Dauphin Hospital Foundation.
