Passed away, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, as the result of a collision while riding on May 21, 2019, Michael Frederick Jones, of Tillsonburg at the age of 63. Michael was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to the late Upton Jones and to Kathleen (Oakley) Kirby, of Orillia. Michael served his country for fifteen years in the Canadian Armed Forces – Special Service Force Airborne Regiment, 2 Commando until it was disbanded at which time, he was honourably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, as well as a medal for Peacekeeping from the United Nations Egypt. Michael was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Michael has been a dedicated employee of Fleetwood Metal Industries, Tillsonburg for many years. He was also an avid cyclist, known to donate bicycles so children could ride. Michael leaves behind a beloved daughter Crystal (Ryan) Arnold, of Komoka, as well as a special granddaughter Katrina Kraft. Michael is survived by several siblings: David (Dawn) Jones, of Barrie; Phillip Jones, of Coldwater, Ontario; Betty (Bev) Southorn, of Coldwater; Andy (Patti) Jones, of Coldwater; and by his step-father Jim Kirby, of Orillia. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by siblings, Lynda Cubitt, Richard Jones, and infant twins: Christopher and Christine Jones.
A private time of visitation has been held in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Home Chapel. In keeping with Michael’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Celebration of Michael’s Life on Sunday, June 9th, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #153, 16 Durham Street, Tillsonburg. Memorial donations to the “Royal Canadian Legion Branch #153” or to “Wounded Warriors Canada” would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the Maurice J.
