Luca Grandja (née Menalo) passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 23, 2019, at the age of 89. Her smile and laughter will be missed. Luca was born and raised on a large family farm in a small village near Cerevo, Hercegovina. She immigrated to Canada in 1965, following her brother Bosko. Soon after she arrived, she met and married her husband, Paul (predeceased), and they started their own family with their daughter Vesna and son Josip (Leila and Theo). Family and faith were integral parts of Luca’s life. She was an involved member of Our Lady Queen of Croatia Catholic Church and she was an active participant in church events. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends and loved being around and caring for children. In her last years, the arrival of her only grandson brought her joy and laughter. The annual Menalo picnic and spending time with close friends (in her Bloor West neighbourhood) and Croatian community were special times for Luca. Luca spent her last years at Lakeshore Lodge. Visits from family and friends were cherished and were greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank all of the caring staff at Lakeshore Lodge that made Luca’s final years comfortable.
