Lorna Gale Galbraith (Nee McMasters)
May 13, 1946 – May 23, 2019
Lorna grew up in Nanton AB, venturing out for a summer job in Hinton where she married, raised a family and became part of a community that she grew to love. Lorna loved life. She was a compassionate and protective mother to her daughter Kirsteen and grandmother to Coltin and Torry, along with a “great” grandmother to Madison and Linden. To have Lorna as your friend was a true gift. She was witty and had a contagious laugh, was compassionate, was fiercely loyal and always had your back.
Because of her Spirituality and connection to a higher being, choosing a medical assisted death was an easy choice. Lorna battled with COPD for many years and she knew firsthand the struggles she would face as this was a disease that took the life of her mother Ethel McMasters. With this in mind Lorna made the courageous decision not to put her family through the same pain.
Lorna came from a large family, the second eldest of 11, she was able to practice her motherly skills on her unsuspecting siblings. She was also fortunate to gain additional siblings with her sisters/brothers in laws. Lorna also had a number of nieces and nephews that she adored and loved hearing from.
In Lorna’s own words:
“To my Kirsteen, you are my greatest accomplishment! You have brought so much joy into my life; I am truly blessed for your love and support. Thank you for giving me two amazing grandchildren. I know that my family is in good hand.”
“To my grandsons Coltin and Torry, being your grandmother has been a huge honour! Watching you grow and become the kind, gentle young men has made me very proud. Coltin and Rachel you are amazing parents. I will continue to admire your love and commitment to each other and your children. Torry my adventurous free spirit, I have always loved hearing of your adventures and I look forward to joining you on your many journeys.”
“To Shannon, Pat, and Laura the members of my tribe, you three have enriched my life beyond measure. Each one of you have brought me love, laughter and joy, during our many conversations and times spent together. True friendship transcends the petty stuff and thrives on the important things such as trust, honesty, integrity and commitment. Thank you for being part of my life.”
Lorna was fortunate to a have a long and productive career with the RBC bank, she helped and provided impeccable service to members of our community. She also had the patience to train new employees and always made people feel welcome. Her greatest asset along the way was the number of friendships she deposited into her savings account of life. These friendships Lorna maintain and cherished over the years until her passing.
With strong ties to Spirit, she knew when the time came to cross over to the other side there would be a reunion with her son wee Alex she lost tragically 47 years ago. Lorna also looked forward to catching up with her mother, father, siblings, friends and all of the fur babies she had the privilege to love and care for.
During the last month of Lorna’s life she was able to connect, visit and message with family and friends. As good byes were already said it is at Lorna’s request no service to be held. In lieu of flowers the family has requested a donation be made to Dying with Dignity Canada in Lorna’s name.
