Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Maple Manor Long Term Care home in Tillsonburg, on April 16, 2019, Gladys Lillian (Smith) Pieters, in her 100th year. Born in Richmond, Ontario, she was a long-time resident of Tillsonburg and Cultus.
Gladys was a loving and dedicated wife who was predeceased by her first husband Alphonse Louis Peters (Jan 17, 1985), and her second husband Roger Emiel Pieters (March 26, 2010). She is survived by son Frank Peters (Patricia, predeceased Feb, 2015), of Hawkesbury; son Richard Peters (Ena, predeceased March, 2016), of Edmonton; son Larry Pieters (Raymonde), of Hawkesbury; Daughter Patti Holm (Kevin), of Kitchener; and son Wayne Peters (Tamara), of Owen Sound. Gladys is also survived by her two step children Gerald Pieters (Carol), of Simcoe; and Lorraine Rombout (Ted), of Delhi. She was a proud and loving grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Predeceased by her daughter Constance (1973), granddaughter Donna Marie (1964), and two great-granddaughters Victoria (1996) and Jessie (1997).
Gladys was a member of both St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Tillsonburg and Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Langton. She was a former dedicated Life Member (of 60+ years) of the Sacred Heart C.W.L., Langton, and a former Charter member of the Trois-Rivières, Quebec C.W.L. Gladys was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Share Holder with the Belgian Hall. Gladys will always be remembered for her incredible gift of advocacy, for facing challenges head on and the deep love she had for her family and friends.
Friends, relatives, and neighbours will be received by the family on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the MAURICE J. VERHOEVE FUNERAL HOMES- BURIAL AND CREMATION SERVICES INC. Chapel, 40 Queen St., Langton (519)842-4238. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 24 Albert St., Langton, by Rev. Fr. Thomas Kuriacko. Inurnment to follow in the Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gladys’ memory payable by cheque to the “Sacred Heart R.C. Church,” or “Camp Trillium Rainbow Lake- Waterford,” or “TDMH Foundation” or “Canadian Cancer Society” would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
