Brian David Pickering
1946 – 2019
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Brian on Monday, April 29, 2019, at 72 years of age. Brian was born in Medicine Hat in October of 1946 to Yvonne Marie Pickering (Choiniére) and Gabriel ‘Gib’ Pickering. After completing his education in Medicine Hat, Brian moved to Saskatchewan where he worked briefly as a radio commentator and D.J. before moving to a position in television in Edmonton. In later years he returned to Medicine Hat where he worked for several years as a security guard. Brian was an avid and creative writer having written, in his early years, the manuscript of a complete novel about which he was passionate, and over the years an extensive collection of poetry, some of which he self published in both booklets and an online blog; the latter attracting readers in over one hundred countries. He was a country music enthusiast and an animal lover, especially his two dogs who were his constant companions and whom he loved dearly. In recent years he became a staunch fan of the Medicine Hat Mavericks baseball team, attending every home game and following their progress on the road. He will be deeply missed by his brother, Richard Pickering (Ruth), niece, Ann McCarroll (Patrick); nephews, Michael Pickering, Doug Edward (Shelley), Derek Edward (Deanne); brother-in-law, Del Kurtz as well as extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and by his sister, Gail Mary Kurtz (Edward Pickering). At Brian’s request he will be interred at Hillside Cemetery with his parents, A Memorial will be held at a later date in which is to be determined.
