It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Wesley Gordon Horvey of Rolly View, AB on April 15, 2019.
Wes was born to Gordon and Joan Horvey on November 17, 1952 at Cabri, SK. Wes was raised on the family farm at Cabri, along with his brothers, Russel, Gary, Bert, Lyndon, and sister Katherine. The family had a mixed farm where Wes’ father Gordon raised purebred Galloway cattle. Grain farming, showing cattle, fishing, and spending time with siblings and cousins on the farm were a big part of Wes’ childhood. After high school, Wes attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Agriculture, specializing in Animal Science. Upon graduation, Wes was hired as a feed sales representative for Federated Cooperatives, Ltd. at Edmonton, AB, where he worked his entire career, retiring after 41 years. Wes lived in the city for many years, but continued to enjoy the outdoors by going on fishing, motorcycle, and ski trips with his friends and brothers. He moved to Rolly View in 1991 when he fulfilled his life-long dream of buying his own farm, and in the family tradition, started raising his own herd of Galloway cattle. Wes married Audra in 1993 and had two sons, Dustin and Wyatt. Wes enjoyed his life on the farm, and also valued spending time with friends and family. When he wasn’t working on his farm, he enjoyed fishing trips, camping with friends, attending the boys’ sporting or 4-H events, and welcomed friends and family to hang out around a campfire.
Wes is survived by wife Audra, sons Dustin and Wyatt, siblings Russel (Cheryl), Gary (Debbie), Bert, Katherine (Kevin) Marshall and Lyndon, Mother-in-law Rena Moulton, Brother-in-law Greg (Renee) Moulton, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Wes is predeceased by his parents Gordon and Joan Horvey, father-in-law Dale Moulton, brother-in-law Garry Moulton, and nephew Blake Moulton.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 1 P.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rolly View.
Donations in Wes’ memory are gratefully accepted to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rolly View, or the Alberta Cancer Foundation/Cross Cancer Institute.
