Rose Whaling (nee Givlin)
Angela Rose Whaling, 83, formerly of RR# 3 Embro, passed away peacefully surrounded by her entire family at Kingsway Lodge, St. Marys, on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
She was born in Dublin, Ontario daughter of the late Agnes (Flanagan) and Ambrose Givlin.
Rose is survived by her true love and best friend of 61 and a half years, Frank Whaling, whom she married at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Dublin. Proud and loving mother of Marion Brown (Pat), Keith (Debbie), Ron (Mary Kay), Mike (Janet), Pat and Sharon (Kevin Harding). Grandmother of Erin (Umair), Robert (Jacqueline) and Cynthia Brown, Dyan Lindner (Marshall), Kevin, Jason Whaling (Vanessa), Amanda Theobald (Brandon), Shawn, Jeffrey, Darren, Kyle and Brent Whaling, Celina Whaling-Rae and great-grandmother of Allison, Logan and Emma Lindner. Rose is survived by her sisters Margaret O’Brien, Marie Givlin, Viola Moser (Harold). She is also survived by brother-in-law Jim Whaling (Jean) and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by son Brian Whaling (1997). Rose was predeceased by her brothers and sisters and their spouses Anna Nolan (Dennis), James (Rita), Teresa Laverty (Wilfred), Rita Mullin (Wilfred), Patrick, Sister Leona Givlin C.S.J., Ursula Givlin, Joseph, John Givlin; brothers-in-law William O’Brien and Joe Whaling and father-in-law and mother-in-law Art and Bernadette Whaling.
Rose was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Stratford, a 62-year member of the CWL and more recently attended Holy Name of Mary Parish in St. Marys. Rose was a lifelong member of the Elm Grove Women’s Institute.
The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful, caring staff and residents at Kingsway Lodge for all the compassion they showed to our mom. It is very much appreciated.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Sunday, April 28th, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Catholic Women’s League will hold a prayer service Sunday at 1:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford, on Monday, April 29th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church Restoration Fund, Holy Name of Mary Parish Building Fund or the Canadian Diabetes Association through the funeral home. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
