Memorial Donation
Georgina Marshall was shaped by the Depression and World War II.
She was born in the east end of Hamilton in 1924 and graduated from high school in 1942, going to work for the Bank of Commerce where she remained for the rest of her working life.
One day in late 1946, a handsome, charming and snappily dressed veteran called Fred Marshall came into the bank. One thing led to another and after a four-year courtship they were married in 1950. Leigh was born two years later and Mike in 1955.
Georgina was a quiet and strong mother, thoughtful and hard working, but not emotional. She was always interested in the world around her, including politics and current affairs. She was Liberal in the truest Canadian sense, tolerant of others, socially progressive and inclusive and welcoming. She had strong opinions, but did not impose them on others and was stoic and uncomplaining.
She was creative and meticulous in her sewing, knitting and quilting projects. She always had something in her hand and was not afraid of the future. Her iPad was her connection to the world and her grandkids through the pictures they sent. In her late 80s she taught herself to crochet via YouTube.
Georgina’s last few years were spent at Trafalgar Lodge in Oakville which she came to call home. Although a solitary person by nature, she was comforted by the care and relationships found there and was particularly fond of a room service breakfast every day.
Her death this week at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital at the age of 94 was a merciful, peaceful and quick passing.
A Service of remembrance will be held at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral home 64 Lakeshore West (one block east of Kerr St.) Oakville on Tuesday April 7, 2019 at 2:00 pm with an hour of visiting prior.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that a donation to Emily’s House (www.emilyshouse.ca/) be made in her name.
