Beverley “Bev” Fraser
1928-2019
Passed away peacefully on April 26, 2019 at Innisfree House in his
91st year.
Best friend and beloved husband of Doreen Fraser (Hall) for 69 years,
loving father of Diane Sloat (Paul Shouldice), Jane Walker (Randy) and
Brenda Kemp (Barry Ames), cherished son of the late Arthur and Flora
Fraser, brother of the late Bill Fraser, Howard Fraser and Jean
Miller. Survived by grandchildren Jeffery Drysdale (Lynn Highly),
Katie Drysdale Bates (Tyler), Michael Cole (Shari), Scott Cole
(Allie), Mackenzie Kemp (Cheyanne Almeida), Tessa Kemp and Alexandria
Walker. Cherished great- grandfather of Kennedy, Jack, Liam and
Brielle Cole.
Bev grew up in Galt, Ontario where he worked at Scroggins Shoe Factory
and enjoyed playing baseball on the company team for many years. He
loved to play hockey and speed skating as a younger man. When the
opportunity came he purchased Gold Room Shoes in the downtown core.
After that he used his talent and skill of woodworking doing home
renovations. Among his accomplishments he helped build the sanctuary
at Lincoln Ave United Church and his own home on McKenzie St. All the
while Bev was most known for his wonderful baritone voice. He sang in
Variety Shows at Lincoln Ave Church, church choirs and the Fleming
Gray and Cambridge Male Chorus’ for over 52 years. As an
accomplished soloist he sang at first and second generation weddings
and funerals and in 1964 for Queen Elizabeth on her visit to
Cambridge.
Bev loved being outdoors which showed in the well-groomed gardens and
pool in his backyard. He kept physically active by walking and
swimming. He never lost his love of sports and continued to cheer on
his grandchildren at their soccer, hockey and ringette games.
On Bev’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will
receive friends and family for visitation on Friday May 3rd at 10am
followed by a memorial service at 11a.m., at Cedar Hill United Church,
241 Cedar St., Cambridge. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bev’s memory may be made to
Cedar Hill United Church or Innisfree House, hospice in
Kitchener.
