William Robert Witcomb
1945-2019
It is with deep sorrow that the family of William Robert
Witcomb announces his passing at the Valley Regional Hospital,
Kentville, on Saturday, March 23, 2019. Born on September 15, 1945 in
Montreal Quebec, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Wright)
Witcomb. Bill will be lovingly missed by his wife of 44 years, Ann
(Dodge) Witcomb; his children, Kimberley McDonald, Stephanie Tierney
and Shannon Witcomb; sister, Lynn Maddeaux and her two daughters,
Andrea and Diana along with his nine amazing grandchildren, Brandon,
Aynsleigh, Cameron, Tegan, Rhianne, Brentana, Brooklyn, Brenten and
Bronson. Bill spent his entire career in the newspaper industry.
Starting as a sports writer for the Montreal Star before settling into
Fredericton, NB and building his career at the Daily Gleaner back in
the early 80’s and stayed there working his way up to
managing editor before retiring in 2005. He had a huge love of hockey,
spending most of his younger years playing hockey. He had a real love
for the game both on and off the ice. He also spent a number of years
playing Squash at the YMCA. He had a real love for music from back in
the day when “music was good” as he liked to say. He enjoyed
many vacations with his family over the years where many great
memories were made. Cremation has taken place. There will be
no visitation or funeral service, at the family’s request. A
family burial service will take place at a later date in the Pine
Grove Cemetery, Middleton. The family would like to thank everyone for
their love and support during this difficult time. Donations in memory
may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have
been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
