Eila Wisswell Sunday March 10th 2019

We are saddened to announce the passing of Eila Pauline Wisswell on Sunday March 10, 2019. Eila died peacefully in Collingwood, Ontario, with her daughters Sue Ralph (Wayne) and Patti Clawson (Scott), by her side.
Momma, will be sadly missed by her four grandchildren Brooks and Steffi Ralph and Becky and Emma Clawson and grand-dogs Lucie and Cash. Eila was predeceased by her husband, Jack Wisswell and brother Philip Francis (Brenda Perkins).
Eila was born in Hamilton but moved to Etobicoke as a teenager where she met and began to date Jack in grade 10 at Etobicoke Collegiate. Despite going to Toronto’s Teacher’s College, she worked for many years as an accountant at Village Ceramics Limited, Hollander Glass and Octanorm.
After Sue and Patti were introduced to skiing, Eila and Jack decided to take up skiing themselves to ensure years of family fun. Eila was excited to spend time on the slopes of Craigleith with her family, her friends and in later years with her grandchildren. Even after many years of skiing, she was still so nervous at the narrowing portion of Partridge that we named it “Eila’s Corners”. She would freeze at the spot, calling out: “Jesus, Jack!” and have to be coaxed to continue down the hill.
Eila loved to dance at Craigleith’s Après Ski parties, socialize at the President’s Ball and Night of the Classics and bring in the New Year with close friends.
When not skiing at Craigleith, Eila spent her summers relaxing and sun tanning at North Winds Beach. She spent her beach days reading books, swimming, windsurfing and building sand creations with her grandchildren.
Momma loved her grandchildren unconditionally and she was tremendously proud of all of their accomplishments. She looked forward to the times that they visited and took over the chalet in Craigleith, with love and laughter.
Eila’s true passion was decorating. She had a keen eye for design and potential. Ignoring Teen Beat and Glamour magazines as a teenager, she began the steady stream of subscriptions to many home decorating magazines. When she and Jack purchased the lot on Wyandot, mom was on-site. Design plans in hand and hard helmet on head, Eila watched over the building crew ensuring that each detail was met.
Her four grandchildren knew most of the HGTV personalities as they spent many hours cuddling on the couch watching decorating and renovation shows with Momma. She was the family go-to person for decorating advice. Whether it was for new home purchases, renovations, or colour schemes for home or dorm rooms, everyone looked to Momma for ideas and inspiration.
Eila and Jack lived in Etobicoke until they moved to Craigleith permanently for their retirement.
During their retirement, they were avid travellers. They visited Scandinavia, Western and Eastern Europe, China, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Eila loved the adventure that came with their travelling. They made great friends while travelling over seas, and during their annual retreat to Florida.
Eila enjoyed her Bridge Club ladies, and their regular get-togethers.
The family would especially like to thank the ladies who cared for Eila during her last days. Their thoughtful attention and care is very much appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life with family and friends at a later date, in the spring.
