Bernadette Mary Hooper 19482019

Bernadette Mary Hooper
1948-2019
With family by her side, Bernadette Mary (McCluskey) Hooper
of West Saint John, cherished wife of Ron Hooper, passed away
peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Bobby’s Hospice
after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Plaster Rock
on June 13, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Gilbete
(Bolier) McCluskey.
Saying good-bye to someone that you
love is never easy but when one was as full of life and laughter as
Bern, it is especially tough. She touched so many people
with her wry humour, happy-go-lucky way, her welcoming home and her
fabulous cooking (best homemade rolls ever!) and it has been said
could literally made friends with anyone. Her family was
number one but she somehow managed to fit in more hobbies than most
people take on in two lifetimes. She was a member of Crazy
Soles Line Dancing, Urban Legends Line Dancing, the Fundy Gardening
Club, the best dog-walking club on the west-side and she practised
tai-chi as well as put her hand to painting,
Before her number 1 guy Ron Hooper,
her hobbies and her critters filled her days, her focus was completely
on raising her two much-loved sons, Rod and Cory. After they grew up
her focus moved to her next two favourite boys, Lucas and
Logan. She gave them all the love and life that she
possessed and found she had plenty left for Tammy, Shawna, Laura and
Madison. Turns out that the more you give, the more you have to
give. Bern seemed to know that naturally.
In addition to her husband of 29 years, Ron, Bern is also
survived by her sons: Rodney Mahaney (Tammy) and Cory
Mahaney; grandsons: Lucas Mahaney (Laura) and Logan Mahaney
(Madison); sister, Juanita “Jay” Paradise (David); brother,
Steven McCluskey (Sandra); daughter-in-law, Shawna Mahaney; along with
cousins, nieces, nephews, other members of her extended family and
many special friends. Besides her parents, she was also
predeceased by her brothers: Joseph, Charles
“Fred” and Winston.
Bern’s family would like to express their sincere
thanks and appreciation to the staff and volunteers of Bobby
Hospice. The care, compassion and support shown towards Bern
and her family will never be forgotten.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal
visitation or funeral service. However, a casual gathering
will be held to celebrate Bern’s life on Saturday, March 16,
2019 between the hours of 1:00 – 3:00 PM at
Brenan’s Bay View
Reception Centre, 1461 Manawagonish Road,
West Saint John (634-7425).
For those who wish, remembrances made to Bobby’s
Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
