Obituary for
Valera Marilyn Phillips (Thaler)
Phillips, Valera (nee Thaler):
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 27th, 2019 at her home at the age of 84.
Valera was born and lived her whole life in Kitchener, Ontario, where she enjoyed a happy and fulfilling life in a small bungalow with her adoring husband and dance partner, (Arthur) Earl Phillips, and her seven children. Valera was a devoted and loving wife to Earl, who predeceased her in 2014. She was much loved by her neighbors and friends on Wilson Ave., and later, at Clair Hills Retirement Community. Valera loved camping, playing cards, listening to music, and spending time with her sisters. She treasured her yearly summer getaways on Lake Nipissing with her family and many Seguin’s Beach friends, where she enjoyed happy hour and listening to fishing stories, campfire serenades, and Earl’s classic jokes.
Valera was a cherished mother to Greg (Kim), Gerry, Denise Rooke (Dave), Janie Tallman, Linda Wagner (Mark), Randy and Kelly Miller. She was the best mom in the world.
She loved large family gatherings with her children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Valera was beloved Grandma to Tina, Amy, Sean, Jennifer, Deanna, Angela, Rebecca, Michelle, Melissa, Daniel, Andrew, Christopher, Keegan, Bethany, Hailey, and Cooper, and precious Great-Grandma to Aaron, Mackenzie, Gerry, Alex, Lily, Evan, Clara, Clark and Olive. Valera came from a large family herself, and is survived by her sisters and partners-in-crime, Evelyn Weber, Jo Ann Beaupre and Nancy Herter.
Also predeceased by her son Gerry, parents Howard and Mildred, daughter-in-law Grace, and siblings Walter, Gerry, Bill, Jean and Dorothy.
Valera’s family will receive relatives and friends from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
