Rose Arent 2019

Rose Arent
November 9, 1935 – January 19, 2019

Rose Margaret Arent (nee Korzenowsky), beloved wife of the late Alex Stanley Arent, passed away peacefully at the Canora Hospital on January 19, 2019, at the age of 83 years. Rose was born on November 9, 1935, on her family farm south of Mikado, SK, in the Mazeppa District, RM of Sliding Hills to Mike and Fedora (nee Geraga) Korzenowsky. Rose was the youngest of eight children. Both her mother and father passed away by the time Rose reached the age of ten years. Her older, surviving siblings, that remained on the farm, stepped in to help raise her. When Rose was older, she left the farm in Mikado and gained employment in the Tiny district, where she met her future husband, Alex Arent. Rose and Alex were united in marriage on July 5, 1953, and together they were blessed with four children: Adam, Delores, Albert and Michael. Rose was a homemaker. She tended to her family, as well as to the farm chores, which included milking cows and raising chickens and pigs. She also maintained a very large garden, which on any given year, was always bountiful. Her cooking was second to none. At any celebration at the old farmhouse with family or friends, no one ever left hungry or thirsty. Even with limited money, Rose made sure her family never went without. In 1995, with little reluctance on Rose’s part, her and Alex purchased a house and moved to Canora. The downsizing of land did not stop Rose from continuing to plant a large garden in town. She also maintained a large flower garden, which was admired by her many friends and neighbours. In 2010, with the passing of her husband Alex, Rose continued to live independently. With assistance from family, friends and neighbours, she continued to live on her own until a month before her passing. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rose was predeceased by her parents; a brother and sister in childhood; son, Adam; husband, Alex; her sisters: Katie, Ann and Vera; brother, Julian; and her son-in-law, Peter Shukin. She is survived by her daughter, Delores Shukin (Jack Gehon) of Canora, SK; sons, Albert (Brenda Murray) of Canora, SK and Michael (Sonya) of Listowel, ON; sister, Judy Hoydalo of Selkirk, MB; grandchildren: Patricia (Jason) Chernoff of Veregin, SK, Kurtis (Genevieve) Shukin of Canora, SK, and Caleb, Ayden and Noah Arent of Listowel, ON; and her great-grandchildren: Taye, Kaelyn and Karter Shukin of Canora, SK, and Carson and Harper Chernoff of Veregin, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, January 25, 2019 and the Funeral Service celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 26, 2019, both from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will
follow in the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, north of Tiny,
