Brian Peter Kay
Brian Peter ‘Percy’ Kay (Cohen)
May 1940 in Manchester, England – January 19, 2019 in Ottawa, Canada
We have lost, four months short of his 79th birthday, one of the sweetest, kindest and gentlest men, who put others needs before his own and worried constantly about his loved ones. As well, Brian was loved by many for his positive outlook, upbeat personality and dry wit despite all his health issues. His last illness took many by surprise as it did his family, friends and colleagues.
Brian, son of Leah Sybil and Henry Kay (Cohen), deceased, leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Deirdre, and his sister Brenda (Malcom, deceased) who will miss him sorely for the generous love he showed them. He was the loving father of Jonathan (Crissinda) and Alison (Curry) and stepfather of Reina (Allan). Brian was grandfather to Colt and Chase Dallas, Grandpa Brian to Carter Victoria, Lilly, Connor and Trevor Kay and Gramps to Ethan and Rowan Phillips.
Brian volunteered at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute for over 15 years to give back to the place that saved his life in 1988 and kept him going for over 30 years. He had a good run.
For the care Brian received from the outset, the family wishes to thank: Dr Don Beanlands, Dr Wilbert Keon and Dr Marino Labinaz. In this his last illness we thank Dr Ross Davies, Dr Ibrahim Jelaidan, Dr Mariana Lamacie and Dr. Paula Enright. We thank also the nursing staff in the Reference Centre and on the fifth floor of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute for their care in keeping Brian comfortable in his long goodbye.
The funeral will take place in the Cwinn Chapel of the Jewish Memorial Gardens in Osgoode, January 21 2019 at 2:00 pm. Funeral arrangements are courtesy of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, Woodroffe Chapel. There will be no Shiva house. Celebration of life is to occur at a later date.
