Obituary for
Alan Curren
Curren, Alan
Passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Burlington on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Elizabeth Curren (Shantz) for 64 years. Loving father of Donald Curren (Jean McQuattie) and Kenneth Curren. Predeceased by his daughter Mary Curren-Senkowski and her husband Richard Senkowski. Proud grandfather of Matthew, Alexander, Holden and Garrett. Son of Reginald Herbert Curren and Mary Curren (nee Roche). Brother of Kenneth and Reginald Curren, predeceased by brother Donald. Alan will be deeply missed by many extended family members and friends.
Alan was born in Bedford, Nova Scotia, on May 10, 1927. He graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and moved to Toronto to pursue a career in financial services in 1950. There he was introduced to Elizabeth who became his life’s love and partner. They were married on July 3, 1954, and began a family shortly afterwards.
Over the following years, Alan worked in a number of different sectors of the financial services industry including life insurance, estate planning and investment advisory. He was widely respected for his expertise, dedication and work ethic, and continued to look after his clients’ financial needs well into his 80’s.
Alan was an ardent sports fan. He followed hockey, baseball and football, and coached minor hockey in Oakville, Ontario, for many years. He was also a devoted dog owner who shared his home and life with several generations of spirited Airedale terriers.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital and Sunrise Senior Living in Burlington for the excellent care they provided Alan over the past several months. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Trafalgar Park Community Centre (133, Rebecca St., Oakville). In lieu of flowers a donation to Parkinson Canada would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made through the website at: www.parkinson.ca
