Obituary of William MacDonald
MACDONALD, William “Billy” Henry – age 60, of Hilden, passed away suddenly in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on January 23, 2018. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late James and Jessie (MacLeod) MacDonald.
Billy grew up in Enfield, along with his siblings. At the young age of 17, he met the love of his life and they soon married on a warm summer day in July 1978. The newly married couple moved to Halifax where Billy started work as a motion picture projectionist and worked for various theatres across HRM. He also worked for the then Metro Centre, as a spotlight operator for many concerts and events such as the Nova Scotia International Tattoo. Billy moved on from that line of work and was employed by Sears Canada for many years and later as a civilian at Stadacona Base Hospital before retiring in 2014.
He spent his retirement years at home in Hilden with his wife by his side.
Billy and Elaine had three children and five grandchildren with three more arriving this spring. He was a wonderful Poppy who loved his grandchildren and was so excited for the 3 more arriving in a few months.
He was a man with a big personality and a big heart. He loved his wife and children. He loved his pets. He could often be found on his back deck feeding the birds that visited daily. He loved a big campfire and sitting around it telling stories and enjoying a nice cold beer, and listening to music. He enjoyed his daily trips to the Brookfield Tim Hortons for his morning double double. Billy and Elaine have been enjoying their Golden years together, jumping into their car and exploring Atlantic Canada and going on many spontaneous adventurers. He was passionate about antique cars and enjoyed traveling to antique car shows.
He is survived by wife of nearly 43 years, Elaine (nee Hoyt); children, Amy (Scott), Samantha (Kyle), Nicholas (Darby); grandchildren, Abigail, Simon, August, Monica and Siylas; his many siblings and friends.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home.
A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to your local SPCA in Billy’s name.
Although his family are devastated by his sudden passing we are comforted in the knowledge that his dear brother, John welcomed him into Heaven.
