William “Ernie” Young
William Ernest “Ernie” Young of R.R. 2, Tiverton, passed away at Kincardine Hospital on July 22, 2018 in his 82nd year.
Ernie was the beloved husband of Doris (Bradley) Young for 60 years and the devoted father of Jim (Rose Marie), Bill (Nancy), Brian (Kathryn) all of Tiverton, Roger (Caroline) of Port Elgin, June (Laverne) Walker of Fort MacMurray, AB and Linda Young (Dave Mackereth) of Tiverton.
He will be greatly missed his grandchildren: Amy (Andrew) Hallman, Corey Young, Ashley Young, Devon Young (Rachael Stanley), Caitlin Young, Cristina (Colby) Bellan, Brandie (Steve) Bernard, Ryan (Kaitlyn) Young, Samantha (Jon) Hootnick, Jacob Walker, and Dylan Young and his great grandchildren Colton and Kensington Bernard, Kaydence and Nash Young, Olivia Hootnick and Eddie Bellan.
Also survived by his dear sister, Louie Armour, of Owen Sound, brother Bill (Zita) Young of Creston, B.C. and brother-in-law Gordon (Lois) Bradley of Kincardine, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, William and Rosina (Baldwin) Young, his sister June (Alvin) Filsinger, brother-in-law Adam Armour, grandson Aaron Walker and great granddaughter Blayre Bernard.
Ernie (100 Per) was born on Guelph Line in Burlington on July 7, 1937. His father worked for Westinghouse in Hamilton. In the early 1950’s they came to a summer home in Inverhuron, later buying a farm on the 2nd Con. of Bruce Township. Ernie took over this farm at a young age, later selling it and moving across the road to Lot G, Concession 2 where he lived for the rest of his life. John Taylor and he were the first two employees hired by Ontario Hydro to slash the bush in preparation for the power line running from Kincardine to Douglas Point. He continued to work for Ontario Hydro at the Bruce Nuclear Plant for over 30 years, first with Construction and later as Service Maintenance Superintendent. All the while he continued to farm. Ernie and Doris built a new house on the east corner of Lot G and Ernie continued his farming operation along with son, Bill, and grandson, Devon. He was Past Master of Tiverton Masonic Lodge, an elder of Knox Presbyterian Church in Tiverton and Bruce Township director on the Federation of Agriculture.
Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine on Wednesday, July 25th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.. The funeral service will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Tiverton on Thursday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. David Chang officiating.
Interment, Tiverton Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Knox Presbyterian Church – Tiverton or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
