McKay, Willard Alexander – age 82 of Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche and formerly of Balfron, passed away December 18, 2018 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro with his family at his side. Born in Balfron, he was a son of the late Alexander and Elsie (Sutherland) McKay. Dad worked for Nova Scotia Power for 34 years, retiring in 1991. After retiring, he enjoyed working in the blueberry fields and cutting his firewood each year. He could also be seen out selling the Brookfield Big Game Hunt tickets each year and on weekends, he would drive people home if they needed a ride. Dad had a kind heart and was always wiling to lend a hand. Surviving are his daughter, Kathy (Dougie), Balmoral; sons, Dennis, Truro and Mark (Tammy), Balfron; grandchildren, Melissa (Chris) MacBurnie, Samantha McKay, Adam Archibald and Justin (Nicole) Archibald; great grandchildren, Noah and Bella MacBurnie; brother, Wallace (Bonnie), Bible Hill; sisters, Catherine Carstairs, Alberta, and Janetta Marks, Tatamagouche. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Vera Laurie; infant son, John Wayne; brothers, Foster McKay and Fraser McKay. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, December 27 in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche. A private interment service will be held at a later date in The Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Falls Cemetery, Balfron Hall or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. A special thank you is extended to the staff of Willow Lodge and Colchester East Hants Health Centre for the wonderful care given to Willard.
