Wendy Lynn Bilson nee Sandercock
September 7, 1945 – October 12, 2018
Wendy passed away peacefully and comfortably surrounded by her children on October 12, 2018.
Wendy was born in Seattle, Wendy was raised and lived her early life in Drumheller as a Sandercock. She attended high school in Drumheller, went on to attend the University of Calgary and returned to Drumheller to have her first children, Michele and Paul. After several years in Medicine Hat, she would return to Drumheller in 1976 to meet and married Terry Bilson, father of Brad and Todd in 1979. That same year the youngest Curtis, was born and newly formed and enduring family began on Cedar Crescent where she lived until her passing.
Wendy’s first and most cherished career was to be a mother. She loved bringing the family together around special occasions. Wendy and Terry made the family home and place where all friends and family gathered to celebrate all annual events and life milestones. Her mission was to raise positive children and to pass on her energy and enthusiasm to everyone that shared time with her.
She worked 30 years as a medical office assistant at Drumheller Associated Physicians and took great pride in her work and was admired by so many that she served until her retirement.
When Terry passed away on Valentine’s Day in 2012, her dreams of doing all of the things that were on her bucket list were forever changed. She carried on, swimming at the Aquaplex sometimes 6 days per week and keeping an eye on her family as they grew. She would not miss participation in the annual Battle of the es and made it a point to see that her grandchildren experienced the joys of learning to swim.
She was a proud mother of 5 children who survive her as Michele (Spouse Mark Bieganek), Brad (Spouse Athena Winchester), Paul, Todd and Curtis (spouse Carole Henriquez) all of which completed post-secondary education positively affected by her encouragement and unwavering support. Her role would latter grow as the proud Granna to grandchildren Vincent, Noah, Sierra, Maya, Juliet, Kiana and Santiago as she would continue to share her enthusiasm for current events, food, travel and life with them.
Wendy was predeceased by her mother and father and survived by many nieces, nephews and loving family members from near and far. She will be dearly missed.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date. The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Diabetes Society, or heart and Stroke, or Kidsport. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
