Verlene Mae Whidden
Whidden (Harpell), Verlene Mae, age 61, of Cole Harbour, passed away peacefully on September 16th 2018 at Halifax Infirmary, QEII. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for 25 years.
She is survived by her loving, supportive husband of 39 years, Keith Whidden; parents Doug and Lottie (Hubley) Harpell, Port Bickerton; daughters, Natalie (Craig) MacGrath, Antigonish, Nicole (Brian) MacLean, Cole Harbour, Jessica (Tyson) Ball, Antigonish; grandchildren, Jacob, Brooklyn, Quinn, Finley and Reid whom she adored and cherished in every moment. She is also survived by brothers, Brian (Bev) Harpell, Port Bickerton, Blaine (Cheryl) Harpell, Indian Harbour Lake, Dwayne (Heather) Harpell, Airdrie, AB; sister Cheryl (Darrell) Rideout, New Glasgow; many nieces, nephews and countless friends and family.
Verlene worked in the financial industry at RBC, BLJC and Maple Trade Finance. She had an outgoing nature, a passion for life, and was greatly adored. Her radiance and smile lit up every room. A great friend to many who enjoyed entertaining at her family home; she was admired for her gifted singing voice. Verlene was an active member of the Bosom Buddies paddling team. Her love of golf was secondary to the whole experience. She loved spending time in her travel trailer with family. Verlene had a strong faith, which more than helped her through her journey. She loved flowers, seeing the beauty in everything and everyone. Verlene often said “all you need in life is love”. Simply put, a loving and caring person.
Visitation will be held from 2-4PM and 7-9PM on Thursday Sept. 20th in the Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St Dartmouth. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Friday Sept. 21st in The Anglican Church of Saint Andrew, 2 Circassion Dr., Dartmouth. Reception to follow at the Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth.
