Thomas McVetty
Peacefully at age 84, Thomas passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the Brockville General Hospital, Charles Street Site. He will be sadly missed by his second wife, Lois; son, Peter; daughter-in-law, Odean; granddaughter, Alexandra; and step-children, Allen, John and Terry Johnston and Barbie Dougherty. He was predeceased by his parents, William John Edgar and Verna Grace, and by his first wife, Marion Esther.
Thomas was born on February 8, 1934 at Cookshire, Quebec. He married Marion and moved to Brockville, Ontario in the 1950s. He was a kind hearted family man, dedicating his time, talent and energy to providing for his family. He enjoyed a 35 year long career as an industrial maintenance engineer with Dupont of Canada at the Maitland plant site. He personally built two houses, one in Brockville and one on the St. Lawrence River in the Augusta township of Leeds and Grenville County. He loved to travel and travelled extensively by motorhome throughout North America. He was able to spend his winters in Florida for nearly three decades. Thomas retired in Brockville, but kept busy in retirement with home improvement projects, playing golf and travelling.
As per Thomas’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A private graveside service was held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Wall Street United Church or the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.
