Theodore Joseph “Ted” Mattie
1941-2018
It is
with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theodore Joseph
“Ted” Mattie. Ted was born on May 12, 1941 in Barrios Beach,
Antigonish County, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late
James “Jimmy” Frederick and Rita Elizabeth (Bonvie) Mattie.
Ted
was a farmer all of his life and was well known as a pork and beef
producer as owner of Mattie Farms Ltd, Tracadie. He was actively
involved in several agricultural organizations including being a
member of the Nova Scotia Institute of Agrologists (receiving the
Outstanding Farmer Award in 1994), serving terms as President of the
Federation of Agriculture, Senate Club, NS Pork Producers, NS
Cattlemen’s Association, Vice President of Antigonish
Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. Board of Directors. He was the first
farmer to be awarded the Antigonish County Farm of the Year award. Ted
served his community through the Tracadie Holy Names Society, Tracadie
Volunteer Fire Department, St. Peters Parish Cemetery committee, and
Treasurer of the Tracadie Seniors Club. He served as a board member of
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation and a member of
the Highlander Curling Club. An avid gardener, Ted was always proud of
his harvest and early
vegetables.
He is
survived by his loving wife of 49 years Dorothy Anne (DeYoung),
daughter Lynn, Truro; son Daniel (Jackie), Edmonton, Alberta; daughter
Julieanne (Darryl) Connors, Afton; and daughter Jennifer (Dwayne)
Baines, Spruce Grove, Alberta; grandchildren Dane Matheson, Rory and
Brenna Connors, Colten and Camren Mattie; sister Carol Schembri, BC;
brothers Michael (Anne), Stellarton; Basil (Elaine), Tracadie; Bernie
(Karen), Port Hawkesbury; sister Charlotte (John) Mattie, Monastery;
brothers Robert (Halifax), Ralph (Donalda), Tracadie; sister-in law
Marie Mattie, aunt Ethel (Bonvie) Landry, and many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his oldest
brother James Frederick, and brother in-law Spiro Schembri.
Visitation will be held
Sunday, October 14th 7-9pm; Monday, October 15th
2-4 pm and 7-9 pm
in C.L. Curry Funeral Home,

College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass Tuesday at
11:00am in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie
with
Reverend John Barry presiding.
Memorial donations may be made to Heart &
Stroke Foundation of N.S. or
St.
