Sister Thecla Becher (Sister Mary Serena) SP
Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Thecla Becher passed away at the age of 76 at Providence Centre, Edmonton on August 14, 2018 after a short illness. Sister Thecla was born in Manning, Alberta on October 16, 1941 and entered the Sisters of Providence in 1960. She was appreciated for her gentle kindness and cheerful spirit. Sister Thecla’s loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence, her family Mathilda (Tony) Brochu, Sister Alwina Becher SP, Linus (Dolores) Becher, Gertie Jaeger, brother-in-law Bill (Ciss) Kaup and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Angela Becher, her sisters Marietta Bazinet, Barbara Kaup and brothers-in-law Willie Russnak and Clem Jaeger.
The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Thecla by the nursing staff at Providence Centre and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
Evening Prayer will be held at Providence Centre Chapel on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. and Reverend Michael Dechant OMI will celebrate a Funeral Mass in the Providence Centre Chapel, 3005 – 119 Street, Edmonton, at 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2018. Burial will follow in the Sisters of Providence Cemetery in Calgary, Alberta.
