Selma Bach 2018

Obituary Overview
Selma Bach
Selma Bach was born as Selma Reschke on the family farm south of Esk, SK. She was the fourth daughter of five children of Assaf and Sidonia (Wolfe) Reschke. Selma passed away November 20, 2018 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK.
Selma is lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Robert of Saskatoon and her two daughters Brenda (Reg) Graves of Edmonton and Rose Bach of Saskatoon. Selma is also lovingly remembered by her two grandsons Joey (fiancée Erin) Graves of Fort St. John and Nicky Graves of Edmonton. Selma is survived by her oldest sister, Alma Manke of Regina. Selma is also remembered by her nephews and nieces: Michael (Paula) Hicks of Vancouver, Darcy Hicks of Victoria, Glen (Kristie) Demke of Edmonton, and Cheryl (Norbert) Krueger of Airdrie and her great nieces: Corinne (Darren) Breitkreuz of Regina and Sharese (Ryan) Cyr of Regina. Selma is also remembered by Robert’s family and numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Selma is predeceased by her parents Assaf and Sidonia Reschke, brother Ron (Hazel) Reschke, sister Ella (Paul) Hicks, sister Hilda (Gus) Demke, niece Dianne Fenske and brother-in-law Bill Manke.
Selma grew up on the Reschke family farm south of Esk and went to Hiawatha school to grade 8. She left the farm and worked at various jobs in different cities and eventually made her way back to Saskatchewan. Robert and Selma met at Jansen church and started dating. They married on November 14, 1959 in the Jansen Temple Baptist church. They spent their life together farming, raised two daughters on the farm and later retired to Lanigan in December of 1996. In September of 2017 they moved to Riverside Terrace in Saskatoon.
Selma loved her family and they were the most important people in her life. She was especially proud of her two grandsons Joey and Nicky. Selma and Robert had family devotions together every day and prayed for each of their children and grandchildren daily by name. When Selma was 80 years old, she decided she was missing out on the texting world and decided she needed to get a smart cell phone. So she did! Reg, Joey and Nicky helped set up her contact list and taught her how to use her cell phone to text. If you were on her contact list and she knew your birthday, you would get a Happy Birthday message from Selma on your birthday. Little did we as Mom’s family realize how much of a lifeline Mom’s texting would be her last months of life.
Selma loved animals, flowers and her vegetable garden. Mom had names for all their cows, dogs and cats. When Mom called, all the animals would come running as they knew they were likely in for a munchie treat and Mom would be able to get her chores done. Selma would plant large vegetable gardens, much to the dismay of her daughters, as they would be enlisted to help weed, harvest and process all the garden produce. Among the garden vegetables, Selma mixed in lots of flowers, supposedly to attract the bees, however, we all knew Mom loved the flowers and they were really for her enjoyment.
Selma and Robert really enjoyed life at Riverside Terrace and they were making many friends. However, Mom’s health conditions gained her admission to the hospital and eventually to Preston Extendicare. At Extendicare, Mom once again adapted to her new life and enjoyed many of the activities for the residents. Bingo was a particular favorite. Doreen, Reg’s sister, loved to pop by, especially on bingo days and enjoyed watching Mom and Dad try to play bingo. Between the two of them, they still didn’t hear all the numbers but they had a grand time together.
Although we as Selma’s family miss her dearly, we have the hope that she is able to walk and breathe again in Heaven and we know we will see her again.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Selma Bach 2018..
