1937-2018
Ruth Marguerite (Prall) Conrad – of Wolfville, passed away
peacefully August 26, 2018 at the age of 80 in the QEII, Halifax. Ruth
was born in Melvern Square, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia on December
6, 1937. She attended Melvern Square School, Middleton High School and
Mack Business College in Kentville where she met lifelong friends. She
worked at DeWolfe’s, Acadia University and the family farm
(DonRu Farms). She was very involved in minor hockey, 4-H, Brownies
and Guides and Home & School. She also worked as a secretary
for GPMB. She was a tireless advocate to preserve
agricultural lands, especially the dykelands where she was
instrumental in deeding private title of roads of fields ensuring
lifelong protection of the lands. Ruth participated in an anti-uranium
group to stop exploration/exploitation of our natural beauty and to
preserve the health of our population. She also worked on
municipal advisory committees studying use and development of
agricultural lands. Ruth loved flowers, many many flowers, angels,
which she enthusiastically collected, music, art, arts and culture,
horses, nature and feeding the birds with her bird feeders.
She especially loved to watch sunsets and the coming and going of the
Minas Basin tides from her backyard. She is survived by her husband of
60 years, Donald Frank Conrad; daughter, Mary Lou, Wolfville; sons,
Donald “Kevin”, Kentville; Arthur Frank, Baxter’s
Harbour; sisters, Mabel (late Bernie) Gagnon, Comox, BC; Jan (Brent)
Davis, Middleton; brothers, John (Elaine) Prall, Berwick; David
(Joanne) Prall, Morden; grandchildren, Brandon Conrad, Nadea
Melenchuk, Leah Conrad, Lacey Conrad, Kenny Conrad, Stephanie Conrad,
Jessica Conrad, William “Bill” Conrad; four
great-grandchildren, Keegan, Michael and Bradley Conrad, Michael
Melenchuk as well as many nieces and nephews from all over. She was
predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Della (Selwah) Prall, Melvern
Square; special family friend, Wilfred “Bill” Crooks, with
whom the family lived most of their lives; sister, Mary Dominey;
brothers, Kenneth Prall, Henry Prall, Donald Prall; sisters-in-law,
Kay Prall and Florence Jones; brothers-in-law, Bernie Gagnon and
Gordon Conrad. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday,
August, 31, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where
the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:00
a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018, with Dr. Bruce Matthews
officiating. Burial will take place in the St. John’s
Anglican Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory of Ruth may be made
to the charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements have
been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
