Lovingly Remembered
It is with great sadness that the family of Ruby Violet Schafer announce her passing at Innisfail on Monday July 2 at the age of 89 years.
Ruby (Mom, Granny, Aunty Ruby, friend) will be lovingly remembered by son Ron (Diane) Schafer of Calgary: daughters, Holly Schafer of Spruce View and Velvet (Gordon) Wood of Innisfail; nine grandchildren Kerry (Darin), Daniel, Cameron (Rachel), Shannon (Brad), Emerson (Kristin), Vanessa (Josh), Chance, Dallas (Scarlette) and Willow; six great-grandchildren Austin, Laine, Megan, Edina, Pyper and Liam. She is also survived by her sister Florence Halbgewachs and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ruby learned her work ethic growing up on the farm near Torrington (Sunnyslope). Ruby enjoyed working with her hands gardening, sewing, crafting, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed a good game of Scrabble and doing crossword puzzles. Ruby and William built their first home on the Schafer family farmstead near Alix. They moved to Calgary in 1959 and renovated their home where she lived for fifty seven years. Ruby opened a family day home and was known as Aunty Ruby to many children. Ruby cared deeply about her family and friends and took great pride in their achievements. Ruby was predeceased by her husband William Schafer, her parents Theofil and Emma Anhorn, brother Alwin and sisters Gerda Diegel, Norma Angell, Elnora Strohschein and Betty Greig.
A Service to Celebrate Ruby’s Life will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home (1605 – 100 Street S.E., Calgary) on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens (Garden of Apostles).
