Obituary Overview
Forever In Our Hearts
WENTLAND, Rose Isabelle
April 27, 1919 – May 11, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother and Aunt, Rose, on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the age of 99.
Rose will be forever remembered by her only child Roxanne Beaton (To-ny); grandchildren Cameron and Connor Beaton, great-grandchildren Christopher and Kourtney, and great-great-grandchildren Lexi and Max. Rose was predeceased by her sisters; Ida, Mary, Yola and Eva and her brother Toli. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Roy in 2001.
Rose was born and raised in Calgary. She played the organ at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church until her marriage. She married Roy Harold (Stretch) Wentland and after their daughter was born Stretch rejoined the Armed Services and Rose became an army wife. Their travels took them all across Canada from coast to coast, and Europe including Germany and Italy.
Rose will be remembered by her warm smile, her gift of being able to be-friend everyone and anyone, her generosity, her compassion for talking and her ability to make everyone seem at home. Rose leaves behind many, many friends who will miss her dearly.
Rose lived the last of her 30 years in her own apartment until the day she passed. She was an avid shopper and walked ten to twelve blocks every day. She had a marvelous sense of humor and took every opportunity to make people laugh. Her greatest joy in her day was to call her grandson Connor and sing “Good Morning to You”.
Rose was also a champion archer in her younger days, a speed skater, and a bowling and dart champion. She was both feisty and opinionated when she had to be but also understanding and empathetic. In the last 30 years she also volunteered her time to serve Christmas dinner at the Legion and as well as serving to those less fortunate or on the street. She could speak seven languages and just before the Olympics were held in Calgary she attended the University of Calgary to study Spanish. During the Olym-pics she was a translator for several visitors of many languages.
She worked until she was 70 and very proud of her job as head cutter for White Ram. White Ram was chosen to provide the clothing for the Olympics and her pride in her work was evident. She often remembered the huge party they held for her and the wonderful friendships she made.
She will be missed by so many people. Her example as a compassionate human being with a great zest for life will always be remembered. May she rest in peace knowing she is loved and will never forgotten.
At Rose’s request no funeral service will be held. Those wishing to make memorial donations in her memory can forward them to the Easter Seals Alberta (easterseals.ab.ca).
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Rose Isabelle Wentland 2018.source
