Rodney Dennis Cox 2018

Rodney Dennis Cox
April 7, 1943 – April 5, 2018

Rodney Cox, beloved husband of Shirley Cox of Norquay, SK, passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on April 5, 2018, at the age of 74 years.
Rodney was born April 7, 1943, in Humboldt, SK, to Dennis and Irene (Campbell) Cox. The family relocated to the Dunwell District, north of Weeks, SK. In 1950, Rodney began his education at Dunwell School, where he continued until he left school to seek employment. He worked at various jobs with local farmers, eventually accepted a position as a water well driller for a company out of Humboldt, SK, and worked in the Reserve Mill. In 1963, Rodney was offered a job as a grain helper and moved to Kindersley, SK. In 1964, he became a grain buyer with Sask Wheat Pool at Verendrye, SK.
On August 8, 1964, Rodney was united in marriage to Shirley Bateman of Weeks, SK. Together, they were blessed with three children: Neil in 1965, Michelle in 1968, and Kelly in 1972. Throughout the years, Rodney was employed as a grain buyer and the family lived in various communities within Saskatchewan, including Heartshill, Kerrobert, and Young. In 1977, following Rodney’s retirement, the family moved to a farm north of Norquay, SK. Rodney and Shirley purchased some land in the area and began farming together, a dream they both shared. They continued to reside on the farm, where Rodney lived out his remaining days.
Throughout his lifetime, Rodney held a variety of positions within the communities he lived in. He was the caretaker of the curling rink and helped with the construction of the Evergreen Place. His favourite pastimes were playing baseball (catcher), curling, attending sports days, and spending time with his animals. Rodney especially enjoyed time spent visiting with family and friends and appreciated having the opportunity to watch his grandchildren grow.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Rodney was predeceased by his parents, Dennis and Irene. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Cox of Norquay, SK; sons, Neil and Kelly Cox of Norquay, SK; daughter, Michelle Cox of Danbury, SK; grandchildren, Jordan Cox of Norquay, SK and Amber Cox of Kamsack, SK; and sisters, Faye (Wesley) Greier of Melfort, SK and Patsy (Nester) Nowakowski of Wadena, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2018, from the Norquay United Church, with Velda Dahlin officiating. Interment will follow at the Norquay Community Cemetery, Norquay, SK.
